The Director, Administration and Officer Overseeing, Plateau Peace Building Agency, PPBA, Mr. Elkannah Izam has frowned at the recent attack on Du village, Kwall district of Irigwe chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State that led to the death of some persons while leaving some with various degrees of injuries.
Reacting to the unfortunate development, Mr. Izam lamented that the unprovoked attacks on hapless citizens of the state in the last few months could derail the modest achievements recorded in the conflict prevention and peace building efforts of the Plateau State government through the PPBA especially in Bassa where an Expression of Commitment to Peace Agreement was signed in July 2021 between Irigwe and Fulani.
While commiserating with victims of this latest attack and the Irigwe nation, Izam noted that there was need for sustained dialogue and mediation with critical stakeholders across the state so as to compliment the kinetic operations of the security agencies operating in the state.
He then sued for calm and cooperation between communities and the security architecture in the state to weed out criminal elements in their midst and elsewhere.
In the same vein, the overseeing officer PPBA called on the security outfits in the state to check the growing trend of mob actions allegedly carried out by proscribed commercial motorcycle riders within the metropolis.
He maintained that reported cases of mob actions on innocent Nigerians by the commercial motorcyclists lately poses a clear and present danger to the safety of citizens and, a threat to the hard-earned peace the state is currently enjoying.
He therefore charged community and religious leaders, youth and women groups and other well-meaning individuals and corporate entities particularly the Nigerian Police to rise up to this current security threat so as to nib it in the bud.
