Worried by the resurgence of violent attacks in parts of Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas that has continued to threaten the peace and security of Plateau State, the Plateau Peace Building Agency, PPBA in collaboration with the Plateau Debate Guild, PDG organized a one-day Multi-Stakeholder Engagement to mitigate the situation and, de-escalate tension.
The roundtable reflection which drew participants from the local authorities of affected LGAs, community and religious leaders, women and youth organisations, as well as, representatives of Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD), amongst others, was supported by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP).
Director General, PPBA Ms. Julie Sanda who spoke at the engagement said the initiative was to respond to the resurgence of violence in the affected communities stressing that, PPBA has lined up interventions to address the situation through consensus building to halt violence, trust and confidence building that would ultimately lead to community resilience and reconciliation.
The Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen of Bokkos, Hon. Monday Kassah; his counterpart of Mangu, Hon. Markus Artu; the Gwom Rwei Barkin Ladi and; the Saf Bokkos, among other participants harped on the need for synergy and the evolvement of a multi-pronged approach in tackling the menace.
