PPBA, PLASIEC LED POLITICAL PARTIES TO SIGN PEACE ACCORD AHEAD OF LG POLLS.

The Plateau Peacebuilding Agency, PPBA in collaboration with Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC led over Ten (10) political parties participating in the October 9, 2024 Local Government Elections in Plateau State to sign a PEACE ACCORD.

The symbolic signing which took place in Jos was witnessed by the Executive Governor of Plateau State who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo; PLASIEC leadership; member representing Langtang Central in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Nanbol Listik, Special Adviser to the Governor of Plateau State on Inter-Party Affairs, Hon. John Akams and, Director General, Research and Documentation Government House, Dr. Sam Godongs.

Others are the Country Director, United States Institute of Peace, USIP, Prof. Chris Kwaja; Head of Zonal Office, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, IPCR, Adejo Haruna, the Plateau Peace Practitioners Network, PPPN; Plateau State Chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, as well as other CSOs, youth and women groups across the state.

With this positive development, it is expected that the political parties wii run issue-based campaigns devoid of any inciting statements or hate speech and, to seek legal means of resolving any dispute that may arise before, during and after the LG polls.
