USING “THEATRE FOR CHANGE” TO BUILD PEACE IN TROUBLED COMMUNITIES

As part of ongoing strategic efforts of the PPBA, through the PEACECORE project to promote understanding and peaceful resolution of conflict between farmers and herders across the six (6) intervening Local Government Areas of Plateau State, where the project is being implemented, the Agency has unveiled a new initiative - (Theatre For Change).

This initiative, which uses live theatrical effects to a live audience at public places such as markets, is designed to convey messages of Peace and Peaceful co-existence that would in turn raise awareness on the negative effects of violence on communities that had either suffered violence in the past or; are prone to violence.

The “Theater for Change” initiative also seeks to proffer solutions to conflict in communities with the history of clashes between farmers and herders, through community engagement process..

With support from the German International Cooperation (GIZ), the “Theatre for Change”, which is one of the milestones of the PEACECORE Project, is helping to promote social discourse and dialogue through informal means that would eventually inspire positive change in the PEACECORE project locations of Bassa, Bokkos, Riyom, Mangu, Shendam and Wase LGAs and; Plateau State in general.
