The Director General of Plateau Peacebuilding Agency (PPBA), Mr. Joelengs Joseph Lengmang has received in his office, a delegation of some Christian and Muslim youth from Dadin Kowa community of Jos South Local Government Area. The purpose of the visit was for the youth to express their readiness in building a peaceful community within their locality.
The DG, while receiving the youth encouraged them to continue in their good effort of building peace within their communities, by assuring them of the agency's willingness to develop their capacities with the right skills that can compliment their effort in the peacebuilding process.
Recently, the social media was awash with stories of how the Muslim youth from Dadin Kowa foot the hospital bill of their Christian friend, Isaac. Although the Christian friend eventually lost the battle to live, the same friends took it upon themselves to defray the cost of the funeral rites and final internment of their friend.
Dadin Kowa community, situated in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State is fast becoming a model of what Peace and Peaceful coexistence should be. The community is one among few others within Jos and Bukuru metropolis where you find both Christians and Muslims living side-by-side and coexisting in peace and harmony.
For us at PPBA, this is a story that portrays true friendship irrespective of ethnic or religious barriers. It is a story of hope, more so that they are coming from young men and women who have refused to allow the negative narrative around religious, ethnic or political differences sway them from appreciating their shared and common humanity.
We will continue to encourage group of persons or individuals, as well as youth in different communities, who are committed to building peace on the Plateau to continue to do so, and by so doing, we will make Plateau State a true habitable 'Home of Peace and Tourism'.
