“We promise not to undertake our task through a lens of which group ‘wins’ or ‘loses’ but we shall mutually deliberate on issues towards an end goal of peace and peaceful co-existence with true religious eye or divine touch.”
This was the resolve and message of the Plateau State Inter-Religious (IRC) after their inaugural meeting which took place on Monday the 26th of April 2021.
The Executive Governor of Plateau State recently inaugurated the State Interreligious Council as part of his vision to build a stable, inclusive and united Plateau State that is at peace with itself and neighbors.
The council is co-chaired by Rev. Prof. Pandang Yamsat, the former President, Church of Christ in Nations, (COCIN) and His Royal Highness, Muhammed Sambo Haruna III, Emir of Wase and Chairman, Jama’atul Nasril Islam, JNI Plateau State. The co-chairs and all members of the Council expressed their commitment to work across religious lines to deepen peace through the promotion of interreligious freedom and interfaith dialogue.
We commend the Executive Governor for setting up this council as dialogue is key for conflict resolution and peacebuilding. With the support and cooperation of all stakeholders and citizens, the council will successfully build bridges of mutual understanding and transform our peace and security landscape for good.
